Alstom Sizhou kickoffs 5S pilot to raise efficiency

Alstom Sizhou kicked-off a “5S” pilot project on 16 April 2008 to improve their quality and operational efficiency. The Alstom Sizhou 5S Management Team established in January 2008, had visited Alstom Tianjin Hydro in preparation for the 5S project. After careful planning and a detailed implementation schedule, the Assembling and Welding Shops and the 4th Floor of the Alstom Sizhou office building were identified as pilots for project implementation. Abrain Management Consulting Co Ltd, a notable local 6 Sigma management consultant will support the Alstom Sizhou's 5S Management Project. Over 400 employees participated in the kickoff meeting led by David Dai, the acting 5S Management Team leader and Alstom Sizhou’s Quality and EHS manger. David explained the concept and implementation of the 5S pilot project to the audience supported by Alstom Sizhou’s Production Manager, Employee respresentative, Integration Director, Abrain consultant and Operation Director, who each presented various aspects and emphasized the importance of 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain) which forms part of the “Kaizen” philosophy that institutes continuous improvement. Kaizen is based on making little changes on a regular basis: always improving productivity, safety and effectiveness while reducing waste. The pilot project runs till July 2008, serves as the springboard for the larger company-wide 5S initiative to be launched in Alstom Sizhou to help achieve maximum productivity efficiency.
